Learn to Not Be Clingy in Your Relationship

Do you have people that often tell you that you are too clingy or has your partner or a partner from your past talk about how needy you are? Even if you have the best thoughts in mind, being too clingy in a relationship can ruin it fast.

What is Clingy?

Clingy is when you become attached to people and where you depend on them too much. Maybe you enjoy spending time with your partner, but you have to make sure that you have boundaries.

There are some great ways that you can go from being clingy to being self-fulfilling.

Phone Time

When you are a clingy person, chances are that you are constantly trying to figure out what your partner is doing. This means that you are either calling him, texting him, emailing him or sending him links and pictures. This can be conversations that constantly go back and forth. Even if you and your partner enjoy this kind of contact, this can become being overly needy or clingy. Instead of letting your partner concentrate on what they are doing in their life, you are constantly distracting him, and you are probably being annoying when you do this constantly.

Urging to Contact

When you feel that you have an urge to contact your partner over and over, put your phone down. Give it to someone to hold for you for a while.

Find Your Passions

When you are overly clingy in a relationship, it can cause you to have your own hobbies and your own interests in life. Everyone needs to have passions and if you have activities and hobbies that keep you occupied then you will see that you have a life different than what your partner has.

Do something productive like take a class, get music lessons, or go to the gym. You do not have to spend every waking moment with your partner, and you need to make sure that you are finding your own passions and interests.

Give Them Space

You might want to be with your partner all the time, but your partner will want to have time to do things without you. He might want to go out with his friends, go to the movies or do something that doesn’t involve you.

If you are too clingy, you will not want your partner to have his own life. It is important that you give your partner space if you want to have a healthy relationship. You and your partner should have time apart from each other and when he is having a boys night out, have a girls night out with your besties.

Jealousy

People that are overly clingy are often jealous because they worry that their partner is going to cheat on them. If you are always texting your partner because you are worried that they aren’t being faithful to you, you have to figure out how to trust them.

Mistrusting someone is going to cause you and them to be pushed apart. This will cause you to be clingy and if you are not able to have trust for them, you might need to move on. If you trust your partner, then you won’t always be jealous, and you will have a relationship that will be more successful.

Self-Esteem

It might be hard for you to stop being clingy but when you are able to know that your partner loves you and that he is with you, it can help you to be less clingy.

Sometimes being clingy comes when someone doesn’t have self-esteem. You need to know that you can do things on your own and you can be alone and do things without having to depend on a partner.

There are things that you can do to help you build your self-esteem and to have more confidence in your life. This will help you to stop being so clingy.
